The body is gently washed by trained same-gender volunteers in the prescribed Islamic manner. This ritual purification prepares the deceased for their return to Allah, following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The deceased is wrapped in simple white cloth — three pieces for men and five for women. This shroud symbolizes the equality of all believers before Allah, regardless of worldly status or wealth.
The community gathers at the Muslim Center of Greater Princeton or at the graveside to offer the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah). This collective supplication seeks Allah's mercy and forgiveness for the departed soul.
The deceased is carried to Resting Garden and laid in the grave on their right side, facing the Qibla (toward the Kaaba in Makkah). The grave is filled with earth, and a simple marker may be placed in accordance with Islamic principles of modesty.
A Teaching of Our ProphetThe Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever follows the funeral of a Muslim out of faith and seeking reward, and stands until the prayer is offered and the burial is completed, will return with two Qirat of reward. Each Qirat is like the mountain of Uhud.' (Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim)
